The ICC announced the outcomes of their board meeting yesterday, including announcing a new President, an increase in ICC World Cup prize money, and the location of the ICC Women’s World T20 qualifiers.
The meeting, held in Dubai, also led to the confirmation that the Decision Review System (DRS) will be used in all ICC World Cup matches. The total prize fund for the tournament will also increase from just over US$8 million to US$10 million, with a prize of US$45,000 for winning each group match.

When announcing the rise in prize money, the ICC also commented on their satisfaction with the preparations for the tournament, which will be held in Australia and New Zealand in February and March.

Alterations were made to some anti-doping policy to ensure the continued integrity of the game, and members were praised for their support of the ICC’s no-tolerance policy towards illegal bowling actions. It was also confirmed that the top eight teams in the ICC rankings will qualify for the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, and 2019 ICC World Cup respectively. The 2019 ICC World Cup will also be reduced to just 10 teams.

There was also news for the Irish Women’s team, who found out that their ICC Women’s World T20 qualifiers will be held in Bangkok, Thailand. The qualifiers, with dates still to be confirmed, will see the finalists qualify for the finals tournament held in India in 2016.

Ireland have been placed in Group B for the tournament, and will face China, Netherlands and an African qualifier during the early stages of the qualifiers. Hosts Thailand join Scotland, PNG and Bangladesh in Group A.

In other news Mr Najam Sethi, former president of the Pakinstan Cricket Board, was nominated as the new ICC President, and pending ratification by the General Council, Mr Sethi will take over from Mr Mustafa Kamal as the ICC President.

A full account of the meeting outcomes can be found on the ICC website.
