Round Three Report

The North West Warriors are the winners of the 2014 Newstalk Inter-Provincial T20 Trophy following the abandonment today of both scheduled fixtures.

Torrential rain in Dublin on Saturday meant the ground at Pembroke was saturated, and the umpires abandoned the first game between Leinster Lightning and Northern Knights on arrival at the ground this morning.

Despite the best efforts of all the ground staff, the second winner-takes-all game between Leinster and NW Warriors suffered the same fate, following a pitch inspection at 1.15pm.

The NW Warriors top the table on 11 points, followed by Leinster Lightning on 8, and Northern Knights on 6.

The next game in the Newstalk Inter-Provincial Series is the three-day Championship clash between Northern Knights and Leinster Lightning at Waringstown from August 12-14.

12.45: Chopra takes his second wicket as Ireland U15 turn the screw against Guernsey – 68-5.

12.20pm: At drinks in Ireland’s U15 European Championships clash with Guernsey, Guernsey are 50-3 after 20 overs.

12.10: Ireland Women have restricted Staffordshire to 112-7 off their 20 overs in their first game in the ECB T20 playoffs – great start from the Girls in Green!

11.50am: Great start by Ireland Under-15 in the European Championship opener against – Guernsey are 22-3 from 13 overs. 3 wkts for Reece Kelly, great support from Josh Little.

Ireland Under-15s are in action in the European Championships against Guernsey today, where they’ll be hoping to begin their title defence with a win:

11.00am: Lunch will be taken here at Pembroke at 12.30, with an inspection due to take place at 1pm.

11.00am: Lunch will be brought forward to 12.30pm and the umpires will inspect again at 1pm ahead of Leinster Lightning’s must win clash with Northern Knights.

10.15: Persistent rain over the past 48 hours has left it’s mark on the ground here at Pembroke, and unfortunately there will be no play possible in today’s first match between Leinster Lightning and Noerthern Knights.

Ireland Women are in action today as they push for promotion to Division One of the ECB T20 competition.

They take on Staffordshire at 10.30am at Fordhouses, before taking on Somerset in the afternoon.

The scene at Pembroke

Good morning and welcome to Pembroke Cricket Club, Sydney Parade, for the final round of the Newstalk Inter-Provincial Trophy, where Leinster Lightning are due to take on the Northern Knights this morning, before taking on table toppers North West Warriors this afternoon.

As you can see from the table, North West Warriors are out in front by 5 points, so only a win will do for Leinster Lightning in their first match today which is due to get underway at 11am, if they are to have any chance of stopping the Warriors from claiming their first piece of silverware.

But unfortunately persistent rain over the last 24 hours has left the ground extremely wet, and we’re almost certainly looking at a delayed start.
