A cameo innings of 28 not out from just 15 balls from Ireland Under 19 All-Rounder Peter Eakin saw the Northern Knights home to a tight victory over Leinster Lightning on Saturday at the Lawn.
Leinster Lightning batted first and despite Eddie Richardson’s magnificent run of form continuing with a nearly run a ball 74, they could only post 243 for 9 from their 50 overs with several other contributions nobody else batted with the ease or control of the North County man.

In the reply, the Northern Knights had a pair of sixties that laid the foundations for the chase Nick Larkin made 61, and Lee Nelson 62, but it was an unbroken partnership of 43 for the eighth wicket from Greg Thompson (38*) and the late hitting of Peter Eakin to bring the Northern Knights home for a crucial win. Max Sorensen and Tyrone Kane were best with the ball for the visitors and took three wickets each.

It was the Lightning’s first defeat in the RSAIP50 and means that they must beat North West Warriors in Strabane on Saturday 21 September to take the title.
