The Netherlands won the first of their two ICC World Cricket League matches against Namibia by 31 runs yesterday. The win puts the Dutch into second place with 12 points behind Ireland who have 17 points.
Batting first, the home side posted a competitive score of 268/9. Top scorer was Wesley Barresi with 60 while Tom de Grooth (46) and Tom Cooper (39) were next highest scorers.
Namibia began their innings badly, losing three wickets in the first seven overs for just 20 runs. However, a third-wicket partnership of 97 between Craig Williams and Stephen Baard got Namibia back on track. Indeed, Williams reached 116 before being caught in the 44th over when Namibia were still 60 runs short and the home team’s total proved too much for Namibia as they were eventually all-out for 238.
The two teams play each other again on Thursday, April 18th in Windhoek in another crucial World Cup Qualifier, with the Netherlands looking to win and reduce Ireland’s lead at the top of the table to just 3 points.
The table now looks like this.
