The Northern Cricket Union (NCU) is excited to announce their Women’s Squad leading into the forthcoming 2017 season. Female cricket in the NCU continues to grow and improve, which was highlighted by the thrilling 2016 Challenge Cup Final between Waringstown and North Down.
As the standard of domestic club cricket rises, inter-provincial cricket also improves. The NCU Women’s Senior Squad now has a coaching team in place including Alex Haggan, Sandi Harrison, Robin Johnston, Kyle Weir and Callum Atkinson, who are all passionate to create more opportunities for female cricketers within the NCU.

The Girl’s U15, U17 and Women’s Squads have been grateful to utilise the excellent facilities at Ulster University, Jordanstown Campus. However, with an expanding junior and senior Northern Knight’s programme, the female cricket programme will now move to Wallace High School, Lisburn. This facility will provide more opportunities for our female cricketers to learn and develop.

Player coach Sandi Harrison said, ‘Last season saw a huge improvement in women’s cricket. The increase in participation, standard of performance and the introduction of the women’s Challenge Cup is testament to positive change. Over the winter months this has been taken a step further with the new structure to the NCU Women’s training programme. The girls trained hard in the hope of making it to the next stage of the programme. The coming months will be exciting when we prepare as a squad for the 2017 season where we hope to secure wins and provide a pathway for players to reach the next level in representative honours’.
