Girls teams from across six schools in the Northern Cricket Union will compete in the 2013 Girls Super 8’s League.
This league has been introduced as a development pathway step between primary ‘soft ball’ and secondary ‘hard ball’ Cricket. This competition format follows on from the successful launch of Super 8’s in April 2012.

The league will take place in May and June when the schools will play each other during two days of festival cricket.

The schools competing are:

Belfast Royal Academy
Bloomfield Collegiate (Belfast)
Down High School (Downpatrick)
Friends’ School (Lisburn)
Royal School Dungannon
Wallace High School (Lisburn)

This new format of the game demonstrates cricket’s growing popularity among schools and Girls Cricket.

Nigel Jones, Cricket Ireland’s Regional Development Officer in the Northern Cricket Union, is also the league secretary for the Girls Super 8’s. Nigel said: “After the successful launch of Super 8’s back in April 2012 it is very pleasing to finally see the Super 8’s competition come to life and I look forward to working alongside the six schools involved in this year’s competition. This is a major step forward for Girls Cricket here in the North.”

For any schools who are interested in developing Girls Cricket through coaching and/or playing or would like to enter a team in the 2014 competition, please contact Nigel Jones by telephone: 078 7941 6121 or email: nigel.jones@cricketireland.ie.
