Supported by funding from Sport NI’s Coach Legacy programme, Cricket Ireland HQ and North County CC hosted a day of performance analysis support for the National Youth Coaches.
Ireland Assistant Coach Pete Johnston took time away from the World Cup Preparation schedule to deliver the workshop. The coaches were provided information on the Irish Team’s ‘Pre-match’ preparation right through to the ‘Post-match’ review.

The first section was delivered at North County CC, where the coaches were introduced to PitchVision. This is a state of the art cricket analysis system, combining motion tracking and video analysis into one tool. It has been designed to add excitement and academic benefits to any cricket playing environment. Each player has their own unique profile to build a library of performance data and Videos both locally and online each time they train.

PitchVision demonstrated to the coaches the possibilities of their revolutionary analysis system. The system provides the coaches with huge amounts of useful data, which can reinvent their training sessions and massively improve their analysis of their players. All of the information that is gathered can be linked to player specific video clips, which will be massively beneficial for the coaches when providing their players with feedback.

Pitch Vision

Neil Fairbairn, from PitchVision commented, “through working with Cricket Ireland we are hoping to achieve a long successful partnership and breathe new life and ideas into training at all levels. From encouraging grass roots players to take up and continue playing the game, to working with the Ireland first team squad in preparation for global tournaments and associate competitions.

The recent presentation in Dublin was all about providing the coaches at CI with a knowledge base of the potential Pitchvision can offer, most importantly the ease of use and how the system can play a part in their own coaching enviroments. This might be simply showing and encouraging players by looking at Video footage or analysing the fatigue point of a senior player during a bowling spell.”

The afternoon moved to Cricket Ireland HQ, where Pete Johnston discussed the role Performance Analysis plays in an Ireland game. Listed below are some of the things that is covered before, during and after a game:

· Opposition Analysis (provide videos/notes on opposition players)

· Pre-match Team Meeting (videos will be shown/games plans discussed)

· Game Analysis (every ball will be recorded and linked to video footage)

· Post-match Review (the game will be analysed/plans made for next game)

This created a great discussion between the coaches around what level of analysis is appropriate across various age groups and how they can introduce their players to various Key performance Indicators (KPI’S) that the National Team use. The day proved to be hugely rewarding for all involved and the chance for the various age group coaches to work alongside Pete and the senior team, can only stand our youth teams in good stead moving forward.
