Ireland Qualify for World Cup with Thailand win

Leinster Lightning were presented with the Hanley Energy Inter-Provincial 50-over Trophy this evening, having secured the title with a game to spare.
The presentation was due to take place at the final game of the season last week, but adverse weather conditions in Strabane meant that match was abandoned without a ball being bowled, with organisers decided to hold the presentation at during the Hanley Energy Championship match rather than behind closed doors.
Dr Murray Power oversaw the presentation, with Cive Gilmore of Hanley Energy presenting the trophy to a very happy John Mooney.
“It’s fantastic to win the 50-over competition and great to get the trophy presented today. It just reminds everyone that we are looking to secure a treble and win all three competitions in the Hanley Energy Inter-Provincial Series.”
The Lightning, thanks to a century from Mooney are in pole position to secure that third title after the opening day of play in their final Hanley IPC match against the Knights at Rathmines, a win for the home side will secure the title and a first treble for the side.
In addition to the overall trophy, Tyrone Kane also collected the trophy for Player of the Series from Clive Gilmore, although it was not for him. He was collecting the award on behalf of his Merrion club-mate Dom Joyce, who could not make it to the presentation. Joyce ended the competition with an average of 52.67 after scoring 158 runs in three innings for the Lightning.
