Tyrone Kane blasted 51 from 41 balls at the top of the order, as Leinster Lightning got their 2015 season off to a winning start with a 5 wicket win over Denmark in the first of two T20 encounters at YMCA.
With his side chasing Denmark’s 126, the Merrion all-rounder was in impressive form as the struck three fours and three maximums, sharing a second wicket stand of 88 with Clontarf skipper Eoghan Delaney (35) following the the departure of captain John Mooney (14 off six balls).

Despite losing the wickets of Andrew Poynter (0) and Simmi Singh (6). the experienced Dom Joyce (18) struck the winning runs in the 19th over.

Earlier, young seamer David Murphy got the Lightning off to a perfect start by trapping dangerman, and former Warwickshire player, Freddie Klokker lbw with the first ball of the match.

Hamid Shah was the standout performer with the bat for the visitors, his 56 coming off 51 balls and included five fours and a six. Ahmed (23) and Pedersen (27) both made starts, but Denmarks total of 126 was below par on the good batting deck at Claremont Road.

The two sides are in action again on Saturday, with the Danes taking on Ireland Under-19s at the same venue at 10.30am, before facing off against the Lightning again in the afternoon.
