Trent Johnston will use the remainder of the ECB County Championship campaign to take a look at some of the future stars of Irish Women’s cricket.

The current squad already contains exciting teenagers Elena Tice and Lucy O’Reilly – two of the three youngest players to feature in international cricket – and Johnston is keen to blood some of the next generation in competitive action.

“There’s a great crop of very talented cricketers coming through our coaching structures,” said Johnston. “With us sitting in mid-table it’s a perfect environment to take a look at some of the brightest prospects.

“We’ll be missing both Isobel and Clare Shillington for the remainder of the county games due to time pressures and their workload, but it’ll give others a great chance to stake a claim in the squad.

“Isobel and Clare will play in the ICC European Championship T20 Qualifiers in Rugby in August, so we’ll be at full strength for that.”

Ireland have won two of their opening four games in Division Two and their next game is against Wales on June 15th.
