The Irish Universities Cricket Association Indoor Cricket Intervarsities tournament starts on today, Friday in Jordanstown with 12 teams from 10 different universities looking to become champions.
The Irish Universities Cricket Association indoor cricket intervarsities began in 2006. This year is the 10th year of the competition, with Ulster University hosting for the third time. This year Ulster University have two teams in the competition and they are looking to keep the flag for North. They will have stiff competition from last year runners-up University College Cork, with 5 of the last year’s squad back playing for them.
Last year’s Outdoor Championships Dublin Institute of Technology will be revved up and will be looking for their chance to win the title for their first after winning their first title last June. Leinster have five teams in total, Connaught have four, Ulster two and Munster one.
The teams have been split into two groups with matches taking place all day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the top two in each group playing off in semi-finals right the way down to a final on Sunday evening which will crown the champions for 2016.
