Ireland Qualify for World Cup with Thailand win

Ireland Under-19s arrived in Dubai on Saturday for their four-day camp in the UAE where they are finalising preparations ahead of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in Bangladesh, which gets underway on January 27th.
Ireland international Andy Balbirnie, himself a veteran of two Under-19 World Cups in 2008 & 2010, was on hand to offer sound advice to the youngsters as they gathered at the Raddisson Hotel at Dublin Airport before heading out to Dubai.
Balbirnie gave and the squad an insight as to what to expect when the reach Bangladesh, and what life is like on tour on the sub-continent. He encouraged the players to seize the opportunity not only to be the best they can be while representing their country, but also to embrace all that Bangladesh has to offer and experience the local culture.
The players were also presented with their Under-19 World Cup shirts by Balbirnie at the send off function which was attended by Cricket Ireland CEO Warren Deutrom, the coaching and management staff, and the players’ families.
Since arriving in the UAE, the squad spent the first day recovering, before the first of their training sessions at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. There some of the squad were able to watch some of the South Africa U19 v Australia U19 match which was taking place at the ground.
Ireland will play South Africa in a warm-up up match at the same venue on Tuesday.
Before that, the squad will have centre wicket practice at the Sharjah Stadium – venue for the recent Test between England and Pakistan.
