Ireland U19s looking forward to World Cup Qualifier

Ireland captain Jack Tector is one of the many players keen to make a positive mark and help his nation qualify for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup, when the tournament gets underway in Malaysia this week.
Tector revealed that the Ireland squad is really looking forward to the matches ahead following two tough warm-up games against strong opposition, and is hopeful of a successful tournament in what he admits will be challenging conditions; “As a group we are massively excited for the tournament. It gives us the opportunity to improve even further on the good things we did in Jersey.

“Kuala Lumpur sounds like a great place to play cricket and it will provide us with much different conditions to back home. Fortunately a good few of our squad have been to Sri Lanka so we have an idea of what we will be facing weather-wise. Flying out earlier gives us a chance to acclimatise and experience the conditions we will be playing in. For every member of our team this is the biggest tournament we have played in to date so obviously there will be a few nerves about, but we cannot wait to get started.”

The Ireland team had a rest day on Monday following those two matches against the Royal Malaysian Air Force where they lost the opener on Saturday, but made amends would a good win on Sunday.

Today (Tuesday) the squad had a fitness session in Pretronis Park in the middle of Kuala Lumpur, where the boys worked hard to get used to pushing through the hot and humid conditions they will be faced with during Friday’s opening fixture against Papua New Guinea.

Tomorrow is the first official practice day, which will be followed by the officials meeting and the official opening ceremony.
