Ireland Under-19 gained valuable experience of the conditions in Malaysia as they took on the Royal Malaysian Air Force in their first warm-up fixture ahead of the ICC Under-19 World Cup Qualifier.
Ireland Under-19 gained valuable experience of the hot and humid Malaysian conditions as they took on the Royal Malaysian Air Force in their first warm-up fixture ahead of the ICC Under-19 World Cup Qualifier.
Playing in sweltering heat Ireland bowled first and toiled hard, and put in a solid performance restricting the hosts to 201-9 from their 50 overs.

Rory Anders was the pick of the Irish attack with a very good return of 3-43 from his 10 overs as he, along with fellow opening bowler Josh Little (1-32), got vital overs under their belt in difficult conditions for fast bowlers.

Gary McClintock (2-48) picked up two wickets, while there was a wicket each for Tom Stanton (1-20), Varun Chopra (1-26) and Aaron Gillespie (1-33), with the bowlers backed up by a very good performance in the field which will please the coaches heading into next week’s must win tournament.

On the batting front the Ireland batsmen struggled with the afternoon heat, and for many of the team it was their first experience of a game situation in such humid conditions which will stand to them as the tour progresses.

Lorcan Tucker was the top scorer for Ireland from number five with 28 including three 4s and one 6. Gary McClintock was aggressive throughout his innings of 26 which included five boundaries, while Rory Anders also passed the twenty mark with a battling 23 at number eight. Ireland were eventually bowled out for 145 in the 42nd over.
