Ireland U19s bounced back with an impressive 91 run win against strong opposition today, as they continue their preparations for the ICC U19 World Cup Qualifier in Malaysia.
Gary McClintock top scored for Ireland with a good knock of 67, while brother William was also in the runs with 46 from number six in the sweltering heat at Bayuemas.

Lorcan Tucker (27) and Rory Ander (21) both batted well against a very strong Royal Air Force attack who are destined for the World Defence Championships in Canberra, Australia, in November.

Following yesterday’s tough day with the bat, the players and coaching staff put plans in place to deal with the severe heat and humidity, and difficult batting conditions and it paid dividends as Ireland went on to post 223 in 49.5 overs.

Leg-spinner Ben White was the standout performer with the ball for Ireland taking 3-22 in an impressive 10 over spell which included 5 maidens.

Aaron Gillespie (2-21) and Varun Chopra (2-31) were also in the wickets for Ireland as they bowled their hosts out for 132 in 36 overs.

Today’s win will give the Ireland team confidence heading into next weeks qualifier with two days of tough competition against quality opposition under their belt. The squad gained valuable experience in the Malaysian conditions, and forged some lasting friendships with their opposition who have been fantastic hosts over the last two days.

The Ireland squad have a rest day tomorrow before getting back to training on Tuesday ahead of Friday’s opening encounter with Papua New Guinea.
