Adam Dennison scored 65 from 77 balls and Rory Anders took 4-30 as Ireland got their ICC U19 World Cup Qualifier off to a flying start with a 111 run win over Papua New Guniea in Malaysia.

The Waringstown and Northern Knights batsman’s inning lasted 77 balls and included nine boundaries. There was also runs for William McClintock (43), while Aaron Gillespie and Lorcan Tucker both scored 41 as Ireland posted a commanding total of 271 all out in 48 overs.

That total proved too much for the opposition who were eventually bowled out for 160 in the 37th over to give Ireland a solid first win in the competition. Rory Anders was the standout bowler for Ireland taking 4-30, while fellow opening bowler Tom Stanton took 3-37 from his 10 overs.

Ireland are in action again on Sunday when they take on USA at Royal Selengor Club.
