Coach Nigel Pyne commented on the squad by saying; “The fixtures last year in Scotland produced some exciting and closely fought games and we expect the same this year. There is a great buzz around the women’s and girls game at the moment following last weeks World Cup Qualification so I’m really keen for the players to bring that vibe into the weeks performances.
All the girls have worked very hard to be selected, so now its important that we create an atmosphere in the squad that allows them to play with freedom and enjoy the the experience of representing Ireland. Too often I think young players get caught up by the pressure of performance, we’ll try very hard to strike a balance between enjoyment and winning.
It’s a squad full of players with huge potential, and it’s great to see 3 players from the NCU included, that’s a testament to the hard work being done by Nigel Jones and his colleagues.
As mentioned before there is a good feeling around the game at the minute so I hope that encourages people to come along and support, the experience of playing in front of a good crowd will make the week extra special for the girls.”
