Kim Garth scored an unbeaten half century as Ireland Women launched an amazing fightback to defeat Devon in the ECB County Championships.
Ireland were struggling on 73 for 7, when Garth and Malhide wicket-keeper Mary Waldron rescued their side, doubling the score in a partnership of 73 in 117 balls for the 8th wicket.
Pembroke all-rounder Garth hit 54 not out from 68 balls (3 fours, 1 six), while Waldron played the anchor role scoring a patient 16.
Cecelia Joyce (24) and Laura Delany (16) were the other contributors of note, in an Irish total of 165 all out.
It looked as if the Irish rearguard action was going to be in vain as Devon raced to 66 without loss, with openers Carr (33) and Cranstone (22) in little difficulty.
The impressive Laura Delany (2-20) removed both and with skipper Isobel Joyce (2-29) also getting crucial wickets, Ireland got a foothold in the game.
Teenagers Lucy O’Reilly (1-29) and Robyn Lewis (1-34) claimed vital wickets as the pressure began to build on the home side.
The Irish fielding was top drawer, and proved the difference in the teams as four of the final five wickets to fall were run outs – including direct hits by Kate McKenna and Robyn Lewis to seal a dramatic seven runs win.
