Ireland Qualify for World Cup with Thailand win

Laura Delany returned to Ireland in time for Christmas after a victorious World T20 Qualifying campaign and a successful stint with the Perth Scorchers as part of the WBBL Rookie Programme.
Delany, along with Kim Garth left the rest of the Ireland squad after the dramatic qualifiers win over Bangladesh, heading to Australia instead of returning home to Ireland. The pair were selected for the WBBL Rookie Programme, which saw Delany head to Perth in Western Australia, where she joined up with England captain Charlotte Edwards at the Scorchers.
Speaking of her experience Delany spoke about how much of an impact the rookie programme had on her and her aims going forward.
“Overall it has been an amazing experience and one that I am extremely grateful for. Having trained with some of the best players in the world it is evident that what they have achieved in their cricketing career is down to their hard work and commitment.
“They set an extremely high standard both in the gym and at training sessions and are extremely professional in how they go about their business. I was completely put out of my comfort zone and though it was challenging at times I feel I have learnt a lot in the last week or so and I’m really hoping I can take this back to Ireland which can hopefully help me improve my game going forward.
“I would like to thank everyone involved with the Perth Scorchers squad for being so welcoming and looking after me for the last two weeks.”
Delany has now returned to Ireland and will spend the Christmas and New Year with family before final preparations for the ICC World T20 restart in January.
