CricHQ searches to find Most Valuable Player in each Irish Premier League with the winners taking home a brand new iPad Mini.
Cricketers in Ireland will be able to prove their skills through statistics following the introduction of CricHQ’s MVP (Most Valuable Player) calculation technology in each of the country’s three ‘Premier Leagues’.
The MVP data – which determines an individual’s worth to their team – will be available for all Cricket Ireland fixtures scored live using CricHQ in 2013. This means the MVP data will be available for all Ireland Men’s and Women’s matches and the national Under 19, Under 17 and Under 15 teams.
The CricHQ Competition Management System will be used to fill in the results from the week gone past in the Ulster Bank Premier League in the NCU, RSA Division One in Leinster and the Long’s Supervalu Premier League in the North-West. The player with the most MVP points in each of the three premier leagues this season will win a brand new IPad Mini courtesy of CricHQ. The MVP tables will be updated by Wednesday of each game week.
The formula was devised by the Professional Cricketers Association (PCA) to try and reflect a player’s true influence beyond basic stats like batting and bowling averages. Instead the MVP formula takes into account not only every run scored and wicket taken but every catch held, maiden bowled and run out achieved. A number of former first-class and international cricketers were involved in the design process and the calculation they came up with also takes into account the impact an individual’s performance has on their team’s results. This is then shown as a cumulative points total for each player.
A simplified version of the formula is: Batting + Bowling + Fielding + Captaincy + Winning = Total MVP points
The MVP tables will be available to view here across all competitions.
Strabane’s Niall McDonnell is in third place in the North West
Andrew Leonard, Marketing Manager from Cricket Ireland said: “Cricket Ireland is delighted to further strengthen its relationship with CricHQ through the use of its MVP calculation technology. It will be a fantastic way for cricketers and fans alike to see definitively the performances of individuals across the different premier leagues and maybe end some of the arguments over who the best player in the league is!”
“I’ve no doubt that people will be eagerly logging on to cricketireland.ie each week to see how they’re going in the table as they chase the top spot and the coveted crown of Most Valuable Player”
The MVP data is automatically generated following every game scored with the ground-breaking app. It can be used to view a player’s overall performances or – when combined with CricHQ’s competition management system – to look at how an individual is performing in a certain league or cup.
James Hall was a big mover this week in the NCU and now sits in the top 10
CricHQ’s European Regional manager, Rob Lynch said the MVP calculation is a considerable step forward in being able to objectively quantify a player’s value.
He said: “At CricHQ our goal is to be able to tell the story of what happens in a cricket match through the use of statistics, that’s why we added the MVP capability to our app. Importantly, it is truly reflective of the players’ view of the game and is currently the best system to rank a player’s performance in a match.”
The CricHQ MVP functionality has already proved a huge success in New Zealand where the New Zealand Players’ Association has enlisted the company to manage both the international and the domestic MVP points table.
It is the latest benefit of Cricket Ireland’s partnership with CricHQ. As part of the link-up fans can follow live ball-by-ball graphics of all Cricket Ireland fixtures by downloading the app to their smart phone or tablet or by logging on to https://www.cricketireland.ie/live-scoring and clicking ‘Premier Leagues’ or by clicking here.
