Ireland begin their four game ODI series against South Africa, format in Anglesea Road tomorrow. This is after two last-over deciders in the T20 format in Claremont Road, which gave exciting finishes to the good crowds that gathered over the past couple of games.
In the 1st T20I on Monday. South Africa somehow scored the three runs that were needed from the final ball of the game, including an overthrow, which resulted in a heartbreaking loss for the Irish team at YMCA CC. At the same venue on Wednesday, Ireland got their first win over South Africa in an international fixture, when they won by 20 runs, getting the South Africans all out in the final over of the game. A key area that was noted by many was the high standard of fielding, which was highlighted by the 8 run outs that happened in the 2nd T20I.

The Irish batting line up will be given a boost for the ODI series, with the return of 2015 Women’s Player of the Year Cecelia Joyce, who couldn’t play the T20 leg of the series due to work commitments. They will hope for her to pile the runs on against the visitors, as well as for Clare Shillington to continue her form with the bat. She made 30 (31) and 48(41) respectively in both T20 games.

Kim Garth’s has had some standout performances in the series with the ball. The vice captain took 4 wickets, with figures of 2-12 in the 2nd T20I. One of her overs was the penultimate over. In it, she went for just a single, as well as getting a caught behind, while there was also a run out in that over. She will look to bring those performances into the ODI series.

For the South Africans, they will be looking for their opening partnership to fire for them, along with Mignon du Preez to continue to show off her batting skills. She showed all of her experience to bring her team the win in the 1st T20I, by top scoring with 55(41). For their bowling, they will look to go to their medium pace options to keep down the run rate, and will hope that Chloe Tyron and Marcia Letsaolo will do that.

After the first match, the series will then move back to Claremont Road on Sunday. The third game will be played played on Tuesday in Malahide, with the final match of the series in the Vineyard on Thursday the 11th. There is also free entry for all of the games in the ODI series.
