Ireland Qualify for World Cup with Thailand win

It has been a little while now since my last blog but with the Christmas period falling in between I thought it would be worth waiting until everyone is back in a routine.
It was an exciting time making my first grade debut the round before Christmas. In a very competitive and strong club it was very rewarding to see some hard work on my behalf be rewarded with a baggy green. Although we fell two runs short it was a personal high.
After reaching the half way mark of the season it was time for a short break. Christmas in Sydney for anyone who may not be aware is just slightly warmer than in Ireland. A dip on Bondi Beach is a little more refreshing than the icy waters at the 40ft. Although the weather being lovely and warm it just didn’t have that Christmassy feeling that comes with the cold weather. Although missing home on Christmas Day it was good to experience Christmas here in Sydney.
Looking back on the break I do regret not getting up to the Gold Coast for a couple of days. With cricket back in full flow now it seems like it was an opportunity missed. It was however a once in a lifetime experience seeing the Sydney harbour bridge firework display for New Years eve. It was a very long and warm day waiting in a Sydney park for the display but certainly well worth the wait.
The new year saw the Australian test team take on the West Indies at the SCG which, despite being affected by rain was a good occasion for the little cricket we saw. It was good to catch up with Phil Simmons who seems to be really enjoying his new role with the West Indies. It was also great to chat with Carlos Braitwaite who played a season in Ireland during my first year in division one. I’m delighted to see him doing so well and hopefully he can continue his form.
With the break coming and going a lot quicker than expected it was time to get back focusing on the cricket. A good win last week keeps Randy Petes keeps us in the running for the one day competition and with another win in the two day game over the next two weekends the club should be on track for the two day finals.
