RORY ANDERS four wicket haul helped Ireland to a comfortable win over Canada in their 13th place semi-final play-off at the U19 World Cup in Bangladesh.
FINAL SCORECARD

The Phoenix paceman’s blitz was chiefly responsible for Canada faltering to 73 for 8, and although the last two wickets added 66, a total of 139 was never going to be enough on a batting friendly surface.

Anders 11 wickets for the tournament sees him in second place in the leading wicket takers – one behind England’s Saqib Mahmood (12).

Fiachra Tucker (2-21), Gary McClintock (2-26) and Aaron Gillespie (1-20) were the other successful Irish bowlers in a committed display.

Arslan Khan (47) and number 11 Prushoth Wijayaraj (26) top scored for Canada.

Skipper Jack Tector and Stephen Doheny scored 33 apiece as they broke the back of the modest target with an opening partnership of 75.

There was a minor blip as they, Aaron Gillespie (7) and Lorcan Tucker (0) fell in quick succession to leave Canada with a faint glimmer at 103 for 4.

However Donemana twins Gary (31*) and William McClintock (20*) saw their side home with six wickets and 93 balls to spare. Both struck 4 fours, while Gary also cleared the ropes once.

Gary McClintock’s undefeated 31 allied with his two wickets earlier saw him pip Anders for the Man of the Match accolade.

Speaking to www.cricketireland.ie after the match, Ireland head coach Ryan Eagleson commented, “I’m really pleased for the lads to get a win today as they have worked extremely hard over the last few weeks.

“We played some good cricket against the three test nations we have played so far without getting the win,” he continued, “Today Rory Anders and Tom Stanton bowled well up front and were backed up by the rest of the attack.”

Ireland now await the winners of the Scotland versus Fiji play-off contest which takes place tomorrow (MON).
