The Hills and Waringstown go head to head in Bready in the final of the ISC but who will emerge victorious?
The Irish Senior Cup Final takes place between The Hills and Waringstown on Saturday September 2nd.
For many this is too tight to call and a toss of the coin is the best way to pick a winner.
With strength in depth in both batting and bowling line-ups this year’s ISC Final has the potential to be one for the ages.
Everywhere you look from James Hall to Sean Terry, Adam Dennison to Max Sorenson, Kyle McCallan to Albert van der Merwe there are individuals who could win this final with some individual brilliance.
According to The Hills’ skipper Max Sorenson they are looking forward to and excited by the prospect of playing in the final.
“It’s been a terrific year for us and this weekend is just the icing on the cake. We have played hard all season and have deserved the right to be there on Saturday. The camp is really relaxed and more so looking forward to the experience,” he said.
Waringstown captain Greg Thompson echoed his opponent’s thoughts coming in to the Blue Riband showpiece. “We are excited to play in our third Irish Senior Cup final in three years. The players have been enjoying themselves and played really good cricket throughout the season.”
This is indeed Waringstown’s third final in as many years having defeated Merrion in 2015 before losing to the same opposition in 2016. They were also victorious in 2011 so many of this side have experience of handling the big match day.
“We have a good blend of experience and youth,” Thompson added, “everybody is well aware of what their role is within the team.”
The Hills have also had recent success winning the Bob Kerr Trophy in 2012 and 2014 so once again when comparing these teams it’s all very even, down as far as experience!
“Some of us have been in finals before and won the Irish cup but for most it’s a new experience and I suppose the ones that have been there need to help and guide the others through,” Sorenson added.
The respective captains obviously believe their own side will win the day but they, like the rest of us are agreed on one thing; it has the makings of a classic!
“All and all, it will be great occasion and The Hills will turn up in their droves.” Max Sorenson
“No doubt it will prove to be a great final between two of the top teams in Ireland.” Greg Thompson
