The Ireland Men’s tour of the UAE

Ireland Under 19’s put in a very good performance against Sri Lanka in their final warm up game for the ICC Under 19 World Cup but it wasn’t good enough as Sri Lanka ran out winners by 50 runs.
Ireland Under 19’s very nearly claimed a Full Member scalp in their final warm up game for the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup as a good bowling and fielding performance reduced Sri Lanka to 138 for 8 before the 9th and 10th wicket partnerships saw Sri Lanka finish with 188 All Out.
Ireland’s spinners were again excellent with captain George Dockrell leading the way with 2 for 18 off 10 overs and Andy McBrine’s second very economical day in a row giving him the figures of 2 for 28.
In reply Ireland lost Scott Campbell for a duck but Ryan Hunter and Jason van der Merwe put together a good partnership which put Ireland at 67 for 1 needing only another 120 runs at a touch over 3 an over. However the whole match turned on it’s head with the introduction of the Right-Arm Off Break and Doosra bowler Tharindu Kaushal who left the Irish middle order bewildered as he turned the ball prodigously both ways. Several of the runs that he conceded came through edges as he single handedly won the game for Sri Lanka with an exceptional spell of 6 for 20 that included the wickets of Van Der Merwe, McBrine, Dockrell & Getkate
Barry McCarthy who was left as the not out bastman on 19 not out as Ireland finished 50 runs short and were left to wonder what might have been had Ireland batted the overs.
Ireland now travel to Townsville from Brisbane and they play the biggest game of the them all first up against England on August 12th
