The Ireland Under 17s are heading into a three match series with the Hampshire Academy at Waringstown and Belmont.
The Ireland under 17s are looking forward to what is now a three match series against Hampshire hosted by the Northern Cricket Union.

“A wonderful opportunity for players to make a final push towards U19 World Cup squad selection,” is how head coach Nigel Jones has described this series.

For that to be the case, the games need to be played.

Originally scheduled to play at Woodvale Cricket Club today and Tuesday 29th, the ground conditions were too poor despite the valiant efforts of everyone connected with the club to get the games going ahead.

Similarly, Carrickfergus were due to host Wednesday’s match but, not for the want of effort, that match has also had to be moved.

CIYMS have been able to step in to the breach to host Wednesday and Thursday’s matches while Waringstown will host tomorrow’s first match in the series.

Ireland under 17s head coach Nigel Jones paid tribute to all the original hosting clubs and those who have stepped in at the last minute in very trying circumstances.

On the field there are three players rested from the recent Scotland series in Cork due to injury and/or workload. They are Josh Little, Max Neville and Aaron Cawley; with pace bowlers Cian Nulty, Gregor McFaul and Sean Stanton stepping into the squad. A fourth change sees Neil Rock return from injury to regain his place from Sanil Gupta.

So with both teams keen to get out in the middle and play some competitive cricket, fingers are crossed the rain will stay away for the rest of the week.
