Ireland lose unbeaten record after defeat to the Dutch as an amazing spell of bowling from Daniel Doram was the key in ensuring the Dutch recorded their first win of the tournament, with opponents Ireland tasting defeat for the first time.
The Netherlands won the toss and elected to bat first, and with William Price and Daniel Doram out for ducks, it fell to Saqib Zulfiqar to provide the initial impetus to the innings with a well made 57 before he was bowled in the 35th over.

Brother Sikander had been run out in the previous over, and the Netherlands found themselves on 92-6 with two fresh batsmen at the crease. But those two batsmen – Reinier Kalis and Adriaan Verbeek – put on an unbroken partnership of 89 with Kalis scoring 45 and Verbeek scoring 36.

The Dutch had scored 181-6 from their 50 overs and the Irish had bowled their overs quickly enough to ensure a brief session prior to lunch. As often happens in these cases the Irish lost a wicket just before the interval when David Delany was bowled by Verbeek for eight.

It wasn’t long after lunch when the Dutch brought on the spin of Daniel Doram and Asad Zulfiqar. Doram tied one end up with a superbly accurate spell of left arm spin. His first six overs were maidens and he bowled eight overall as he took one wicket for just four runs in ten overs.

Whilst he was keeping the Irish batsmen from scoring, they had to go after Asad Zulfiqar, and he took 3-27. The seamers then polished off the innings with Verbeek finishing with 3-33 as Ireland were bowled out for 119 to lose by 62 runs.

Ireland will play Scotland in their final group game, whilst the Netherlands will play Scotland on Thursday, with a win in that match helping them towards their goal of retaining their title.

With Scotland beating Guernsey yesterday, the were hoping to make it a Channel Island double with a win over Jersey today at KGV.

Jersey captain Jonty Jenner won the toss and chose to bat first. Scotland bowled well and only James Duckett was able to make a decent score with 55. Jersey collapsed from 95-3 to 109-6 and then from 128-6 from 136 all out.

Mitchell Rao was the pick of the Scottish bowlers with two wickets for just nine runs from his five overs.

Scotland lost skipper Scott Cameron early on in their reply but recovered quickly with a 54 run partnership for the second wicket. It was Ben Wilkinson who top scored with an unbeaten 31 as Scotland won by 5 wickets in a relatively comfortable 36.5 overs.

The run chase ensured that Scotland top the table going into tomorrow’s rest day, and they will have a crucial contest against the other unbeaten team the Netherlands on Thursday, when Jersey will be taking on arch-rivals Guernsey.
