Winning start
Orla Prendergast stars with bat and ball in win over PNG

It was a frustrating weekend for Ireland Women as their matches against Wales and Scotland were both badly effected by rain, meaning there was no result in either game.
The side, led by Kim Garth, first travelled to Newport to face Wales in a 50-over game. After heavy rain in the week before the field was not able to take any more rain, but the early morning forecast proved to be wrong and the game started on time, with Wales winning the toss and choosing to bat first.
Ireland started strongly, with Kim Garth and Amy Kenealy keeping things very tight in the opening spell, Kenealy picking up a wicket to leave Wales 16-1 after 10 overs when the rain started to fall.
The sides left the field and after a long spell of rain and an early lunch the sky started to clear and the prospects of play improved greatly. Unfortunately, the already saturated ground had struggled with the rain on the day, and much of the square was left with puddles on it, even though the wicket itself was fine.
After waiting until the latest point a result would be possible to allow the square to dry, there was still no more play possible, as the umpires ruled the field unfit for play because of dangerous conditions.
Hopes of getting in a full game against Scotland at Wellesbourne Cricket Club on Monday were dashed when the side arrived at the ground to be greeted by pouring rain, leading to yet another long day waiting for the rain to stop.
When the rain did eventually stop close to lunchtime, the square was extremely wet, with standing water in a number of places casting further doubt on the game. That doubt turned to certainty when after a dry spell that lasted an hour, the rain returned ending any hopes of a game taking place.
This weekend marked the end of this seasons ECB County Championship season which saw the side play in Division 2 of the 50-over competition and Division 1 of the T20 competition.
