Dockrell to replace Adair in Ireland squad for Afghanistan Series.
George Dockrell will replace the injured Mark Adair in Ireland’s 14-man squad for the home ODI series with Afghanistan that starts this Sunday.
Dockrell was one of three players on stand-by in case of injury, and given Adair is a seam bowler appeared the least likely to be called up, but after spending this week in Stormont, Head Coach John Bracewell believes the wickets will suit spinners and opted to call up the left armer.
Adair has withdrawn from the squad after sustaining a back injury with Warwickshire before he joined up with the Ireland squad for what would have been his first appearance as a senior international.
The Belfast-born bowler will be out for an initial 2-3 weeks and would not have been able to play any part in the series.
Dockrell has already been training with the squad as they prepare for the crucial series with Afghanistan and will now remain as an official member of the fourteen-man squad. Graeme McCarter and Max Sorensen will remain on standby during the series.
The first game of the five-match series is on Sunday 10th July at Stormont and continues at the same venue through to July 19th with tickets priced at £10 for adults, with tickets available in advance or on the gate for each day.
