Upon winning the toss, Munster Reds elected to bowl first. Immediately they felt the heat with Andrew Balbirnie, Tim Tector and Lorcan Tucker scoring at an explosive rate.
Munster Reds came back into it with three crucial wickets. However Lightning skipper George Dockrell brought the scoring up a gear with 41 off 25.
Wickets certainly helped the home side but the damage had been done. Late hitting from Gavin Hoey (18 off 9) and John McNally (16 off 6) then added further insult.
The Reds had to score quickly to try size up the chase. Yet the regular loss of wickets meant their chase attempt never ever got going.
Gavin Hoey with 2-17 (4) made things extremely difficult for the chasing side by taking wickets and also keeping things tight.
Leinster Lightning currently sit top of the table, and will remain unthreatened with performances like this.
