Women’s Future Series 2024 (round up)

Match updates from all the action in the 2024 Women's Future Series tournament featuring Cricket Leinster Women, Warriors Women, Northern Cricket Union Women.

The competition consists of T20 games taking place from 23 July to 2 August, then 50 over games taking place from 6 August to 14 August.

23 JULY Cricket Leinster Women vs Northern Cricket Union WomenLisburn

  • Northern Cricket Union Women won the toss and elected to bowl first.
  • Early on in the innnings they had Cricket Leinster Women in under pressure at 0-1, 11-2 and 32-3.
  • The batting side battled through, but the pressure from bowlers only allowed them to post 76-8 from their 20 overs.
  • In response, Northern Cricket Union Women lost an early wicket at 2-1.
  • But from their, they were able to score quickly, put pressure on the bowlers and then chase down the total in 10.4 overs.

Northern Cricket Union Women won by 9 wickets

23 JULY Warriors Women vs Northern Cricket Union Women – Lisburn

  • Northern Cricket Union Women again won the toss and elected to bowl first.
  • Bar one over from Emily Calvert, their bowlers were able to maintain pressure as they had done in the match against Cricket Leinster Women.
  • Warriors Women however were able to post 99-7 from their 20 overs despite this.
  • In reply however, Northern Cricket Union Women chased down the total for only four wickets down.
  • Bowlers for Warriors Women were able to make breakthroughs but couldn’t put enough pressure to stop the rate of scoring.

Northern Cricket Union Women won by 6 wickets

26 JULY Cricket Leinster Women vs Warriors Women – North Kildare

  • The toss was won by Cricket Leinster Women who elected to bat first at the Maws in the first game of the day.
  • They posted 133-3 from their 20 overs with only one batter failing to get a start.
  • In response, Warriors Women scored 108-3 from 12 overs in a chase reduced to 15 overs.
  • Cricket Leinster Women were able to take an early wicket but perhaps will be left wondering if they had scored quickly enough with so many wickets in hand.

Warriors Women won by 7 wickets (DLS method)

26 JULY Northern Cricket Union Women vs Cricket Leinster Women – North Kildare

  • Cricket Leinster Women won the toss and elected to bowl first this time round in the second game.
  • Northern Cricket Union Women posted 124-6 from their 20 overs.
  • Overall their batters started well, but the impact of losing wickets in the second half of their innings then brought the bowling side into the contest.
  • In reply, Cricket Leinster Women reached 97 all out from 19.5 overs with the chasing side struggling to recover after early wickets.
  • Northern Cricket Union Women maintained pressure throughout to close out the win.

2 AUGUST Cricket Leinster Women vs Warrior Women – Ballyspallen

  • Cricket Leinster Women batted for 4.3 overs after being put into bat but and lost one wicket before the weather intervened.

2 AUGUST Northern Cricket Union Women vs Warriors Women – Ballyspallen

  • Warriors Women won the toss and then elected to bowl first.
  • They got an early wicket at 23-1 but Northern Cricket Union Women were able to consolidate.
  • However Warriors Women managed to chip away, taking crucial wickets in the latter part of the innings.
  • Northern Cricket Union Women reached 109-8 from their 20 overs.
  • In response, Warriors Women started very strong in their chase putting on 47 for the first wicket.
  • They reached the total in 15 overs, only losing the one wicket.

6 AUGUST Cricket Leinster Women vs Warriors Women – North County

  • The toss was won by Cricket Leinster Women who elected to bat first.
  • They got into trouble early on falling from 28-1, 31-2, 38-3 to 72-5 and then 83-6.
  • From there Cricket Leinster Women found it difficult to recover, but managed to post 103 all out from 23.3 overs.
  • Kia McCartney starred with the ball for Warriors Women; taking 4-10 from 2.3 overs.
  • In response, Warriors got off to a very brisk start, reaching 52-3 from only 5 overs and eventually chasing the total in 12.3 overs.

8 AUGUST Northern Cricket Union Women vs Warriors Women – Beechgrove

  • The toss was won by Northern Cricket Union Women who elected to bat first.
  • They reached 233 from their 50 overs, getting bowled out off the final ball of the innings.
  • Kia McCartney in particular was impactful with the ball for Warriors Women taking 3-36 from her ten overs.
  • However rain arrived before Warriors Women were able to go out to chase the total.
  • Notably, Warriors had the opportunity to clinch the Women’s Future Series title for 2024, but were denied by the weather.
  • Attention now moves to the final game of the competition at Laurelvale on 14 August with Northern Cricket Union Women taking on Cricket Leinster Women (see competition table here).
