DUBLIN – Chair of Cricket Ireland, Brian MacNeice, has congratulated Richard Fahey on his appointment as CEO of Hockey Ireland today.

Mr Fahey, who is currently Cricket Ireland’s Head of Facilities and Operations, will be departing at the end of January 2026 to take up the new role.

Brian MacNeice, Chair of Cricket Ireland, said:

“We are truly disappointed to lose Richard’s expertise in sports infrastructure, project management and operations – it’s certainly a case of ‘our loss is Hockey Ireland’s gain’.”

“In his time with Cricket Ireland, Richard has overseen a portfolio of projects that will benefit Irish cricket for years to come – including the National Cricket Centre at the Sport Ireland National Sports Campus in Dublin, development projects at Stormont, Malahide and Bready as well as supporting the Provincial Unions with infrastructure developments across their network of clubs. While he is moving on, Richard will, I’m sure, remain a good ally within the sports sector.

“Our incoming CEO, Sarah Keane, will play a key role in bringing to fruition a number of these major projects, and we will work with Richard to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities is in place to ensure we continue the strong momentum on our infrastructure plans.

“With the 2030 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup approaching, the importance of projects, such as the National Cricket Centre, cannot be underestimated.  These are critical pieces of much-needed sporting infrastructure for Ireland as a whole – the benefits of which relate not just to the tournament itself, but as a legacy asset that will benefit generations of cricketers to come.

“We thank Richard for his contribution and wish him well in his new role.”
