Oak Hill – A mostly dominant performance from the Scorchers saw them open up their account against the Dragons in their first match of this year’s Super Series.

After winning the toss and bowling first the Scorchers took control of the match early on through expert spells of opening bowling from Jane Maguire and Alice Tector.

Finding themselves at 22-4 Orla Prendergast and Arlene Kelly then worked hard to keep their side in the contest with half centuries each, putting on 92 runs in a crucial partnership.

A handy 20 off 24 deliveries from Cara Murray then helped the Dragons to 179-9 which looked to keep them in the game.

Chasing 180 to win the Scorchers initially found themselves in trouble at 13-2 but a stand of 102 between Gaby Lewis and Leah Paul saw them maintain the dominance they had asserted with the ball.

After the dismissal of Paul, regular wickets continued to fall around Lewis but the batter showed her class to walk away with 90 not out and claim the player of the match award.

The Scorchers mostly controlled the match but the Dragons continued to fight back showing immense character in this the second match of the 2024 Evoke Super Series.
