Ireland Women have got more valuable preparation in local conditions ahead of next week’s ICC Women’s World Twenty20 with a narrow 27 run loss to India in Savar.
Ireland Women batted their 20 overs and finished with 121 for 9 in their chase of India’s 149. Ireland were 61 for 0 at one stage with Clare Shillington hitting the ball particularly well in her innings of 47 from 43 balls, opening partner Emma Flanagan also spent valuable time in the middle for her 16 before she retired to give others some more batting practice.
Melissa Scott Hayward made 15 whilst Louise McCarthy’s 16 included a big six towards the end of the innings as in all 11 Irish batters got to have a hit and Trent Johnston will be pleased with the work out ahead of the first group match next week.
Earlier, India have posted 148 for 4 from their 20 overs following a stirring fightback from Ireland Women in the field. 14 year-old Lucy O’Reilly claimed the prized wicket of Mithali Raj for 42 to stem the run-rate and help restrict the flow of boundaries that had seen India fly to 59 for 0 in the 8th over at one stage.
