CORK COUNTY – At the Mardyke, Munster Reds and North West Warriors played out a very tight game but with the home side coming out just on top.

In the second game of the day, the visitors chose to bat first, as they had done in their previous game against the Northern Knights.

Openers Andrew Balbirnie and Sam toppings set about building a steady platform until topping was dismissed for 30 by John McNally.

Balbirnie who anchored the innings went on to score his first 100 for the Warriors but was dismissed by Liam McCarthy not long after passing the milestone.

Contributions from skipper Andy McBrine, Cameron Melly and Jared Wilson eventually saw the Northwest Warriors post 245 for six from their 50 overs with Liam McCarthy the pick of the bowlers for the home side.

In response, David O’Sullivan had Stephen Duhaney removed early on, then another O’Sullivan wicket and runout looked to have the Munster Reds on the back foot.

Stand-in captain for Munster, Gareth Delaney, whoever managed to get things back on track with 70 off 93 deliveries.

Then in the company of Suliman Safi and Philippe Le Roux, Delaney inched his side closer and closer until he was dismissed in the 41st over.

Le Roux then took on the mantle, continuing his good form to see his side. Home with two. Overs remaining, eventually finishing on 74 not out.

The win at home was Munster Reds first this year in the IP50 Cup and left North West Warriors with two losses from two in the competition so far.
