Dragons take early Super Series honours

CIYMS, Belfast – Early showers threatened to put an end to this first clash of the 2024 Evoke Super Series but as conditions improved the umpires reduced the match to 45 overs per innings with Dragons winning the shortened game.

Dragons captain Amy Hunter elected to bat but they soon found themselves in trouble at 29 for 2 after ten overs.

Hunter’s own 69 off 89 balls brought Dragons back into the contest however the Typhoons worked to wrestle back control keeping the batting side to 184-9.

Typhoons now had the chance to fully stamp their authority but had to also keep an eye on their DLS score for 20 overs which they duly did going at a higher scoring rate than the Dragons.

However it was an incredible catch from Orla Prendergast in the outfield to send back Laura Delany off the bowling of Cara Murray that swung the game the Dragons way.

The Typhoons managed to keep up with the rate despite losing regular wickets yet the loss of Delany felt like a massive blow for the chances of the chasing side. Rebecca Stokell got her side as close as she could but it wasn’t to be.
