The Toyota Super 3’s continued this weekend with the Dragons coming out ahead of the Typhoons on a low and slow wicket in Pembroke.
The wet weather that has plagued cricket in Leinster over the past fortnight, and accounted for the Dragons’ last match against the Scorchers just a week ago had an impact on the game even if the sun was shining, as the wicket proved most helpful for the bowlers, with the Typhoons getting off to a very slow start.

Player-coach Clare Shillington fell first before a direct hit from the field saw Cath Dalton also out cheaply to leave the Typhoons in trouble early on.

The side recovered well with Kate McKenna the main stay of the innings with her 44, although she was supported well by Leah Paul (18), who opened and batted with great patience to hang around and prevent any further damage after the loss of early wickets, and Eimer Richardson, who made a quick fire 25 on her Super 3s debut.

Louise McCarthy, a former Typhoons player proved their undoing though as her 4-23 played a huge part in the last five Typhoons wickets falling for just 21 runs.

On a dry and breezy day batting second was always going to be easier, but the Typhoons will have felt positive about defending their 156 all out when Mary Waldron (5) fell early for the Dragons.

It was not to be though as Cecelia Joyce came in and hitting an unbeaten 54, supported well by Ireland captain Laura Delany who made 44 not out, Shauna Kavanagh (19) the only other wicket to fall.

The win means the Dragons cement their place at the top of the table, with the Scorchers looking to fight their way back when they take on the Typhoons in Bready next Sunday (10th). The game will be the first Toyota Super 3s match to take place in the North West Cricket Union and will be preceded by some coaching clinics with the players and Ireland captain Laura Delany.
