OAKHILL – In sunny conditions at the Wicklow ground, the Scorchers put in a complete that saw some them off to a dream start in the 2025 Evoke Super 50 Cup.
Two early wickets set back the Scorchers who had won the toss and chosen to bat first in the second game of this year’s competition. But Gaby Lewis was quick into her work not long after to turn things around.
The Typhoons took two further wickets to again increase pressure. However, Lewis, with the help of Eimear Richardson now set about putting pressure back on the bowlers.
The opener was eventually dismissed for 137, scoring the first century of the 2025 Evoke Super 50 Cup, with her and Richardson putting on a partnership 163.
The Typhoons bowlers kept at their task but couldn’t stop the Scorchers from posting 316; their second highest ever total in the competition.
An early wicket was exactly what the Scorchers needed. Sarah Forbes and Rebecca Stokell then looked to get the Typhoons chase going, however wickets continued to halt their progress.
Contributions from Laura Delany and skipper Jane Maguire again looked to be moving the Typhoons back into the game but the Scorchers’ bowlers just kept building pressure and getting the rewards for their hard work.
Delany maintained the fight until she was removed by Lucy Barry for 58 from 74 deliveries in the 40th over.
But the Scorchers completed the win not long after by 125 runs to get their campaign off to the perfect start in their first game of the 2025 Evoke Super 50 Cup. Next up they play the Dragons in Lisburn on May 18th.
