The MCC side, due to play Ireland A next week at Bready Cricket Club in a three day match starting on Tuesday, will be running a coaching workshop for all coaches on Monday the 23rd of May 6:30 to 8pm at Bready Cricket Club.
The initiative between the MCC and the North West Cricket Union, supported by both Cricket Ireland Active Clubs program and Coaches Association, is part of a trial by the MCCs to provide more than just playing opportunities for their members and the areas that they travel to, in order to develop the game across the world. As the world largest cricket club, they are uniquely placed to do so.

The focus of the workshop will be “Developing Your Practice Sessions”, this has come about from recent feedback from coaches across the NWCU on how to include as many players as possible, in a positive way, at a net practice session. It will include ways of making a net session as game like as possible, with batter, bowler, wicket keeper and fielding elements all involved. The session will be practical, with boys from the North West also benefiting from being coached. There will be time to interact and speak to the coaches before, during and after the session.

The session will be lead by the MCCs Captain, former Essex, Cambridge and Unicorns player and ECB Coach Tutor, Arfan Akram and Vice Captain, current Northamptonshire fast bowler and ECB Level 4 High Performance Coach, Chad Barrett, along with others in the MCC squad.

Speaking to CI/CE Colin Manson, the Active Clubs Coordinator in the NWCU, said “This is a fantastic opportunity to have the MCC come over for our club coaches to work with and learn from. We are very grateful to both Arfan and Chad for coming over early to run this in the North West for our coaches, I can see a real benefit to this sort of initiative and hope it continues into the future. I know speaking to Arfan, that they are excited about coming across to meet our clubs coaches and speak with them.”

Michael Hingston, Cricket Ireland’s Coach Development Manager, added “This is another great example of the Unions working to develop their coaches based own their needs. It is fantastic to have such a high level of quality coaches coming across to work with our own club coaches in Ireland. We hope that coaches will take this opportunity to come along to Bready next Monday and take as much information and knowledge as they can from Arfan, Chad and the other coaches. Having seen what’s planned for the workshop it will undoubtedly be highly valuable to both coaches in Clubs and the development of their players.”

Tea, Coffee and snacks will be available from 6pm, with the workshop beginning at 6:30 sharp. There will be an opportunity to speak with the coaches and discuss the workshop in more detail after in Bready.

The session will be outdoors if possible, however, if the weather is inclement the session will move indoors.
