O’Brien claimed impressive figures of 4 overs, 3 wickets for just 8 runs, as Ireland’s bowlers blew away the Nepal batting line-up for just 53 runs.

The Nepalese batsmen had no answer to Ireland’s seam attack with Stuart Thompson also putting in a top effort with the ball taking 3-10 from 3.3 overs, while John Mooney continued his fine run of form with the ball taking 2-7 from 2 overs.

There was a wicket apiece from from Cusack (1-7) and Young (1-19); Nepal were all out in 14.3 overs.

After rain delayed the Ireland response, the chase didn’t get off the best start with Niall O’Brien playing on off the bowling of Kami for 3. But thereafter it was plain sailing for the Ireland batsmen, as Stirling (29) and Porterfield (18*) brought Ireland level with the Nepal score in 7.4 overs.

Stirling was bowled by Kami next ball, but it only took man of the match Kevin O’Brien one more ball to hit the winning run to extend Ireland’s lead at the top of Group A to 3 points.

Ireland’s next match is against Papa New Guinea on Wednesday at 10am – tickets for that match will be available on the gate.
