Doheny, Getkate half-centuries seal Warriors win over Knights

MAGHERAMASON – Half-centuries from Stephen Doheny and Shane Getkate helped North West Warriors to a three-wicket victory over the previously unbeaten Northern Knights in their Rario Inter-Provincial Cup match at Bready Cricket Club.
Seeking 254 for victory, Doheny’s 78 from 100 balls and Getkate’s 58* from 64 balls were crucial contributions in the run chase, but it was the sixth-wicket partnership of 63 between William McClintock and Getkate that ensured the Warriors victory, albeit with just two balls to spare.

Earlier in the day, an opening partnership of 115 between Ross Adair (76) and Ruhan Pretorius (50) gave the Northern Knights a solid platform to build upon. However, after the opening pair were dismissed, the Knights’ middle order couldn’t capitalise on the start. The fifth-wicket partnership of 44 between Morgan Topping (32) and Neil Rock (24) was the only partnership of subsequent note, as the Warriors bowling attack, led by Michael Erlank with 4-46, restricted the visitors to 263-9 from 50 overs.

Erlank completed a good all-round contribution scoring 28 in a 52-run stand with Doheny in the reply. The Warriors victory could perhaps have been more comfortable if not for the loss of 5 wickets for 60 with Erlank’s departure – however, late jitters in the Warriors camp were somewhat calmed in the 42nd over when McClintock (32 from 24 balls) took Jacob Mulder for three maximums. Despite the loss of two further late wickets, it was a fitting end to proceedings when Player of the Match Getkate powered Pretorius over the long off boundary.

The Knights and Warriors are now on equal points at the top of the table, separated only by net run rate at the half-way stage of the Cup.
